Lingual Retainer (Finish Ortho)

  1. To prevent relapse, retainers should be fabricated after removal of brackets and bands.  There are  two types of retainer: fixed and removable.  Lingual retainer is a fixed type, whereas Hawley appliance or suction down appliance is removable
  2. Preparation for lingual retainer includes Basic
  3. Ortho Jug: 3-prong pliers, arch contouring pliers, large wire cutter
  4. Bracket/band remover (from ortho drawer)
  5. .032 twisted wire (2 containers: use one with less, shorter wires; from ortho drawer)
  6. Handpieces (high, slow), gingival retraction instrument, polishing cup, pumice
  7. Alginate, trays (small, medium, large, at least two of them) to make Hawley appliance or suction down appliance
  8. Acid etch, prime & bond, composite, light cure
  9. Cotton rolls (2-3), 2x2 (1), Cavitron, prophy cup and pumice
