A 88-year-old man has severe xerostomia-induced caries.  After caries control, implants will be placed at #7, 8 and 10 (Fig.2).  Note concavity at the apical buccal plate at #10 site as well.  Because of the narrow mesiodistal space, a 1-piece implant (3 mm in diameter) will be used at #11.  To prevent perforation, try to place the implant in the middle of the palatal slope of the socket (digital palpation while drilling) and check the trajectory often.
