Fig.2 (preop palatal view): There is infected granulation tissue (*) palatal to the left lateral incisor (#10). This inflammatory soft tissue is supposed to be removed after tooth extraction.  Since the inflamed gingiva is fragile, curettage is less aggressive, happening to leave the granulation tissue behind.  The good aspect is that the granulation tissue helps socket closure after immediate implant and immediate provisional.  Once the main infected source (the affected tooth) is eradicated, the infected soft tissue will turn into a healthy one postop.
