A 36-year-old lady presented to clinic with DO 2nd caries of the tooth #2 10 years ago (Fig.1*).

There is wide furcation between the buccal roots of the 1st molar, whereas that of the 2nd molar is narrow.  When the 2nd molar is extracted, there are generally two sockets, buccal and palatal.  The buccopalatal width is much wider than the mesiodistal one.  Without severe bone loss, the buccal slope of the septum is usually the best site of an immediate implant.
