Immediate Surgical Stent

When the patient returns for implant placement next day, he has signs & symptoms of upper respiratory infection.  The option to extract the tooth #31 and postpone implant placement is offered, but the patient wants to finish all the treatment at one time.  A quadrant tray is used to take Alginate impression for the lower right (Fig.1).  The immediately fabricated surgical stent (Fig.2) is mainly used to check position of osteotomy once established.  Combined with X-ray (Fig.3,4), the stent ultimately help placing implants at fairly good position (Fig.5).

Due to stress associated with the patient general condition, immediate splinting restorations are not fabricated.  After placement of abutments, perio dressing is applied for wound protection.

Twelve days postop, the patient returns for follow up.  The wound is healing around the implant at #30, while the gingiva has attached to the implant at #31 (Fig.6).  Early provisionals are fabricated.
