RCT Prior to Implantation
Root canal therapy (RCT) in a 85-year-old man could be intimating. Study of CBCT (Fig.1 (sagittal section), 2 (coronal)) alleviates such anxiety. The canal of the tooth #22 is straight, patented and close to the wear facet (Fig.1-3).
Fig.4 shows a master cone in place (40/.04). Fig.5 is taken after RCT and build up. Eradication of the periapical infection at the tooth #22 helps preventing post-immediate implant infection at the site of #21 (Fig.1). The tooth #22 develops acute apical abscess 4 years 9 months post RCT (Fig.6). After apicoectomy (Fig.7), allograft is placed (Fig.8).
