Food Impaction Under Pontic

A 60-year-old man has food impaction under the pontic of the lower right FPD (Fig.1-3: #30).  The ridge should be thin, since the bone density in the edentulous area is low.  The mesiodistal width is also limited.  A 1- or 2-piece implant (3.5x8.5 mm, Fig.4 (CT coronal section)) is expected.  Use wheel to section the ridge vertically and Rongeur to remove the ridge.  Grind the latter for graft.  Place a wide abutment to increase the width of the pontic site to reduce food trap.
