Implant Crown Width

The diameter of implant (Fig.1 I) and abutment (A) at the site of the lower left 1st molar is similar to that of the neighboring premolars.  But the mesiodistal dimension of the implant crown of the molar is much wider than that of a premolar (Fig. 2, 3, 4 (buccal view), 5 (lingual view).

In order to reduce lateral force to the implant, the buccal (Fig.2 B) to lingual (L) width of the crown should be 80% of its normal dimension.
