Bone Growth after D Implant

A 37-year-old man has an unsalvageable central incisor (Fig.1), which is extracted atraumatically with insertion of collagen plug (Fig.2).  The buccal plate appears to collapse 5 weeks (Fig.3,4) and 3.5 months (Fig.5,6) post extraction.  The ridge is being expanded with D osteotomes (Fig.7,8) before placement of a D2 implant (Fig.9: 3.5x4.5x20 mm) with immediate correction of the buccal plate collapse (Fig.10).  There is no or slight relapse 2 weeks (Fig.11,12) and 4 months (Fig.13) post implantation.

When a definitive restoration is cemented 5 months postop, the 1st thread is not completely covered by the bone (Fig.14<).  The bone continues to grow coronally 10 months (Fig.15), 2 years (Fig.16) and 3 years 5 months (Fig.17) post cementation.
