When a definitive restoration is cemented, the 1st thread is not completely covered by the bone (Fig.14 <).  The bone continues to grow coronally 10 months (Fig.15), 2 years (Fig.16) and 3 years 5 months (Fig.17) post cementation.  The most coronal portion of the implant that can be covered by the bone is indicated by * in Fig.17, partially predicted by the bone level of the neighboring tooth and partially by the character of the implant surface treatment.
