Fig.2: Preop CBCT sagittal section of the upper left 1st molar edentulous area.  To fully take advantage of limited existing bone height, a bone-level tapered implant (4.1x8) is planned.  In addition, the bone density around the impending implant is low, as compared to that of the bone surrounding the roots of the neighboring teeth.  Bone condensation as well as internal sinus lift is anticipated.  One of instruments to accomplish these two tasks is bone expander kit.

A limiting factor for the small diameter of the implant is the narrow mesiodistal width of the edentulous space, which is 5.7 mm.
