The upper 2nd molar have 3 roots with limited furcation.  The buccal ones may be fused (Fig.1 (CT coronal section)).  After extraction, there are 2 sockets (Fig.1').  B: buccal; P: palatal: *: septum; >: thin palatal bone in this case.  Because of less furcation, the septum of the 2nd molar is short.  A bone-level implant should start in the septum and stop at the crest instead.  The exposed threads are to be covered by bone graft
