Where Should an Implant be Placed?

A 40-year-old man presents to clinic with chief complaint of pain in the lower right 1st molar.  Exam reveals a fistula in the mesiobuccal area.  PA shows a large radiolucency associated with the mesial root (consistent with root fracture).  Where should an immediate implant be placed?

The distal root (D) of the 1st molar is close to the mesial root of the 2nd molar.  The immediate implant should be placed in the septum or the mesial socket of the 1st molar.
